Are you fussed of the seemingly ceaseless flock of Mathematical symbols and quantities? Are you baffled of the loose and complex scientific laws, concepts and theories? Don’t worry—You are not alone.
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) might be the most feared strand among all strands that one may choose on stepping up to the senior stage in high school. It is a curriculum where the four distinct disciplines — namely: science, technology, engineering and mathematics — are assimilated and taught cohesively rather than separately. It is such a seemingly direful road for me to pass through; but guess what I found gainful and provocative — Yes, it is the STEM!
STEM: The Root of Million Opportunities
Mathematics is life and Science is life and so are their applications — the Engineering and Technology. These disciplines are four of the most vital components in life, nature and community. Science is everywhere in the world around us; Technology is continuously expanding into every aspect of our lives; Engineering is the basic designs of roads and bridges, but also tackles the challenges of changing global weather and environmentally-friendly changes to our home; Mathematics is in every occupation, every activity we do in our lives. Hence thereby, STEM offers a shipload of opportunities; be it to achieve your dreams, for academical improvements, job opportunities, and many more kinds of opportunities. STEM will surely lead you to greater things.

These are few of the fields that one can take freely through STEM:
- Aerospace Engineering
- Astronomy
- Biochemistry
- Biology
- Biological and Physical Sciences
- Chemical Engineering
- Chemistry
- Civil Engineering
- Computer Science
- Computer Engineering
- Computer Software Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Forest Engineering
- Informatics
- Information Science
- Information Technology
- Management Science
- Mechanical Engineering
- Microbiological Science and Immunology
- Mining and Mineral Engineering
- Network and System Administration
- Paleontology
- Petroleum Engineering
- Physics
- Psychology
- Statistics

STEM: The Seed of the Future Innovators
STEM aims to strengthen the ability of the learners to integrate and apply knowledge skills; nurture creativity, collaboration and problem solving skills. It is not exclusive on abstractions but rather includes the applications of such concepts.
STEM creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators. Innovation leads to new products and processes that sustain the world’s economy. This innovation and science literacy depends on a solid knowledge base in the STEM areas. It is clear that most jobs of the future will require a basic understanding of math and science. STEM: The Rose I Picked
As a student of the STEM Strand, I can’t opt that STEM is an easy strand and so are the other strands. Most people think that this strand are suited only to those who are academically inclined, to those who are “smart“—but no, it’s not. This misconception must be gotten rid of, because it has left many of the upcoming SHS student horrified about STEM.
STEM is the road I had taken, for and by myself, because I surmised that it could lead me to a greater amplitude of the worthwhile things, and it did. It is indeed a gainful road.
Drive yourself along the best Road.
When choosing a strand, don’t be driven by the decisions of your friends nor your family. It’s your choice that matters and will soon matter.
STEM is a strand for everyone. If you think you’re best suited along this road, if it piques your interests, or if it’s your dream strand, do not hesitate to enter. But, if you’re still uncertain and haven’t decided yet which strand to choose, it’s definitely okay. No need to rush, just think of it over and over again, and choose the strand where you think you best fit.
You are not alone in stepping up on this stage of the training ground. Indeed, it is just a training ground because the real fight is not in the school but is rather in the field of profession.
